Chapter , Problem 6.65

(choose chapter or problem)

A clothing manufacturer is setting up an experiment to obtain reliable (99% confidence level) estimates of the mean height and mean sleeve length of a target population. On the basis of previous studies, we can assume that the standard deviations are 2.44 in. for height and 0.34 in. for sleeve length. The mean value of the height and length are 68 in. and 33 in., respectively. How many members of the target population should the manufacturer include in his sample to arrive at the desired estimates for the confidence interval on the mean height and hand length of 1 in. and 0.2 in., respectively'?
