Chapter , Problem 6.76

(choose chapter or problem)

In problem 6.75(b), it turns out that the customer cannot be assured of the shaft balance. (In other words, the variance in diameter along the shaft is below 0.0004 mm2.) As a result, it is proposed that the number of measurements be increased to reduce the interval on the variance to an acceptable level. Assuming the same standard deviation, determine the number of measurements needed to accomplish this aim. (A trial-and-error solution may be required.)
