Consider the experimentally obtained data for tensile

Chapter , Problem 6.85

(choose chapter or problem)

Consider the experimentally obtained data for tensile strength of steel as a function of temperature, shown in 6.91 from 200F to 600F only. (a) Fit the data using a linear regression model. Clearly identify the independent and dependent variables. (b) If the steel is used in an environment where the temperature is 670C, construct a 90% confidence interval for the strength of the steel. (c) Based on your linear regression model, determine the loss in the strength of steel for each 100C increase in temperature. Construct a 95% confidence interval for this value. (d) Based on the data, what would your estimate be of the minimum strength of the steel at a temperature of 550C at a confidence level of 95% (note that this is a single-sided confidence interval)? *
