A proton (charge 1e, mass mp), a deuteron (charge1e, mass

Chapter , Problem 42

(choose chapter or problem)

A proton (charge 1e, mass mp), a deuteron (charge1e, mass 2mp), and an alpha particle (charge 12e, mass4mp) are accelerated from rest through a commonpotential difference DV. Each of the particles enters auniform magnetic field BS, with its velocity in a directionperpendicular to BS. The proton moves in a circularpath of radius rp. In terms of rp, determine (a) theradius rd of the circular orbit for the deuteron and(b) the radius ra for the alpha particle.
