The technique of carbon 14 dating is used to determine the age of archaeological and geological specimens. The formula is sometimes used to predict the age T (in years) of a bone fossil, where x is the percentage (expressed as a decimal) of still present in the fossil. (a) Estimate the age of a bone fossil that contains 4% of the found in an equal amount of carbon in presentday bone. (b) Approximate the percentage of present in a fossil that is 10,000 years old.
