Chapter 10, Problem 113P

(choose chapter or problem)

10-113 It can be shown that the thermal efficiency of a combined gas-steam power plant \(\eta_{c c}\) can be expressed in terms of the thermal efficiencies of the gas- and the steamturbine cycles as

\(\eta_{c c}=\eta_{g}+\eta_{s}-\eta_{g} \eta_{s}\)

Prove that the value of \(\eta_{c c}\) is greater than either of \(\eta_{g} \text { or } \eta_{s}\) That is, the combined cycle is more efficient than either of the gas-turbine or steam-turbine cycles alone.
