(choose chapter or problem)

The carbon isotope 14C is used for carbon dating of archeologicalartifacts. 14C (mass 2.34 x I0-26 kg) decays by theprocess known as beta decay in which the nucleus emits anelectron (the beta particle) and a subatomic particle calleda neutrino. In one such decay, the electron and the neutrinoare emitted at right angles to each other. The electron (mass9.1 1 x I0- 31 kg) has a speed of 5.00 x I 07 mis and the neutrinohas a momentum of 8.00 x J0-24 kg mis. What is therecoil speed of the nucleus?
