Chapter 9, Problem 72

(choose chapter or problem)

Actinomycin D A biologist hypothesizes thathigh concentrations of actinomycin D inhibit RNAsynthesis in cells and hence the production of proteinsas well. An experiment conducted to test thistheory compared the RNA synthesis in cells treatedwith two concentrations of actinomycin D: .6 and.7 microgram per milliliter. Cells treated with thelower concentration (.6) of actinomycin D showedthat 55 out of 70 developed normally, whereas only23 out of 70 appeared to develop normally for thehigher concentration (.7). Do these data provide sufficientevidence to indicate a difference between therates of normal RNA synthesis for cells exposed tothe two different concentrations of actinomycin D?a. Find the p-value for the test.b. If you plan to conduct your test using a .05,what will be your test conclusions?
