Fitting a Binomial Distribution You can usea goodness-of-fit test to determine whether all of thecriteria for a binomial experiment have actually beenmet in a given application. Suppose that an experimentconsisting of four trials was repeated 100 times. Thenumber of repetitions on which a given number ofsuccesses was obtained is recorded in the table:Possible Results Number of(number of successes) Times Obtained0 111 172 423 214 9Estimate p (assuming that the experiment was binomial),obtain estimates of the expected cell frequencies, and test for goodness-of-fit. To determine theappropriate number of degrees of freedom for X2, notethat p was estimated by a linear combination of theobserved frequencies.
