When a dart is thrown at a circular target, consider the locationof the landing point

Chapter 4, Problem 27

(choose chapter or problem)

When a dart is thrown at a circular target, consider the locationof the landing point relative to the bulls eye. Let X bethe angle in degrees measured from the horizontal, andassume that X is uniformly distributed on [0, 360]. DefineY to be the transformed variable Y 5 h(X) 5(2py360)X 2 p, so Y is the angle measured in radians andY is between 2p and p. Obtain E(Y) and sY by first obtainingE(X) and sX, and then using the fact that h(X) is a linearfunction of X.
