Solved: Estimate the error by halving. In Prob. 6

Chapter 19, Problem 19.1.97

(choose chapter or problem)

A "four-point formula" for the derivative is

\(f_{2}^{\prime} \approx \frac{1}{6 h}\left(-2 f_{1}-3 f_{2}+6 f_{3}-f_{4}\right)\)

Apply it to \(f(x)=x^{4}\) with \(x_{1}, \cdots, x_{4}\) as in Prob. 27 , determine the error. and compare it with that in the case of (15)

Text Transcription:

f_{2}’ approx 1 / 6 h (-2f_1 - 3f_2 + 6f_3 - f_4)

f(x) = x^4

x_1, cdots, x_4
