Although sodium and potassium occur in similar amounts in the Earth’s crust, living cells accumulate potassium ions almost exclusively. K+ cannot be replaced by Na+ in cells, but it is possible for other ions to replace K+. Based on the similarity of their chemical properties, which of the following ions might be suitable replacements for K+ in cells: Rb+, Al3+, Ga+, Cs+, Fe2+?
