A linear active RLC network which contains one or more independent or dependent voltage or current can be replaced by as single voltage source \(v_{o c}\) in series with equivalent impedance \(Z_{e q}\).

Here \(v_{o c}\) is the open circuit voltage between a and b (when \(I=0\)) and \(Z_{e q}\) is the equivalent impedance between a and b.
