Interpreting Data The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the amount of energy that must be consumed by a person at rest to maintain his or her body weight. BMR depends on several factors, including sex, age, height, and weight. The following graph shows the BMR for a 60 45-year-old male. For this person, how does BMR correlate with weight? How many more calories must a 250-pound man consume to maintain his weight than a 200 pound man? Why would BMR depend on weight?
