Consider the polynomial (x − a)(x − b) and the real number line shown below.

(a) Identify the points on the line at which the polynomial is zero.

(b) Determine the intervals on which the polynomial is entirely negative and those on which it is entirely positive. Explain your reasoning.

(c) At what x-values does the polynomials change signs?
