If a and b are real numbers such that ab = 0, then a = 0 or b = 0. However, if A and B

Chapter 8, Problem 108

(choose chapter or problem)

Think About It If a and b are real numbers such that  ab = 0,  then a = 0 or b = 0.  However, if A  and B are matrices such that AB = O, it is not necessarily true that A = O or B = O. Illustrate this using the following matrices.

\(A=\left[\begin{array}{ll}3&3\\ 4&4\end{array}\right],\quad\ \ B=\left[\begin{array}{rr}1&-1\\ -1&1\end{array}\right]\)

A = [ _4  4  ^3  3], B = [ _-1  1  ^1  -1]
