Solubility of organic compounds in water-
Water is a polar molecule. Therefore, organic compounds are generally less soluble in water and more soluble in organic solvents.
But organic molecules with ionizable groups like alcohols, acids, and amines tend to be more soluble in water due to the formation of hydrogen bonds with water molecules.
Organic compounds with low molecular weight are more soluble in water. This is because the intermolecular forces are high in molecules with high molecular weight causing a decrease in water solubility.
Branched-chain molecules are more soluble than linear chain compounds as branching decreases the intermolecular forces.
