Chapter 20, Problem 58QP

(choose chapter or problem)

125I is produced by a two-step process in which 124Xe nuclei are bombarded with neutrons to produce 125Xe— a process called neutronactivation. 125Xe then decays by electron capture to produce 125I, which also decays by electron capture. Write nuclear equations for the two steps that produce 125I from 124Xe, and identify the product of the electron capture decay of 125I.
