(a) Assuming instantaneous full application of the brake and a constant coefficient of friction, how long does this take? Solve the problem and check your solution, using two alternative approaches: (1) by relating the kinetic energy in the system to the energy absorbed by the brake per revolution and (2) by determining the rate of negative acceleration produced by the brake torque.

(b) How does the average value of the product pV during stopping compare with representative values listed in Table 18.3?
