Let f (x) = 2x2 5 x + 2 , x _= 2 (a) Show that x = 2 is a vertical asymptote. (b)

Chapter 5, Problem 37

(choose chapter or problem)

Let f (x) = 2x2 5 x + 2 , x _= 2 (a) Show that x = 2 is a vertical asymptote. (b) Determine where f (x) is increasing and where it is decreasing. Does f (x) have local extrema? (c) Determine where f (x) is concave up and where it is concave down. Does f (x) have inflection points? (d) Since the degree of the numerator is one higher than the degree of the denominator, f (x) has an oblique asymptote. Find it. (e) Sketch the graph of f (x) together with its asymptotes.
