Show that the output voltage of the circuit in Fig. P18.51 is given by vO = VT ln vI ISR , vI > 0 Figure P18.51 where IS is the saturation current of the diode and VT is the thermal voltage. Since the output voltage is proportional to the logarithm of the input voltage, the circuit is known as a logarithmic amplifier. Such amplifiers find application in situations where it is desired to compress the signal range.
