A circle with center at the origin and radius of length 19 has equation x2 + y2 = 19

Chapter 0, Problem 61

(choose chapter or problem)

A circle with center at the origin and radius of length 19 has equation x2 + y2 = 19. Graph the circle. (a) Just from looking at the graph, what can you say about the slope of the line tangent to the circle at the point (0, 19)? What about the slope of the tangent at ( 19, 0)? (b) Estimate the slope of the tangent to the circle at the point (2, 15) by graphing the tangent carefully at that point. (c) Use the result of part (b) and the symmetry of the circle to find slopes of the tangents drawn to the circle at (2, 15), (2, 15), and (2, 15).
