Chapter 11, Problem 7

(choose chapter or problem)

Refer to Figure 11.4.9. If \(x_{m}<x_{1}<x_{M}\) and \(x=x_{1}\), show that \(F(x) G(y)=c_{0}\) has exactly two solutions \(y_{1}\) and \(y_{2}\) that satisfy \(y_{1}<a / b<y_{2}\). [Hint: First show that \(\left.G(y)=c_{0} / F\left(x_{1}\right)<G(a / b)\).]
