QUESTION:

An Olympic-size pool is 50.0 m long and 25.0 m wide, (a) How many gallons of water (d = 1.0 g/mL) are needed to fill the pool to an average depth of 4.8 ft? (b) What is the mass (in kg) of water in the pool?

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

(a)  Here, we are going to calculate the volume of water needed to fill the pool.

Given that,

Length =50.0 m

Wide = 25.0 m

Depth = 4.8 ft = 4.8  0.3048 = 1.46 m

Volume of the pool = 50 m  25 m  = 1828.8

We know that,

 1.0  = 264.17 gal

Therefore, the amount of water needed to fill the pool = 1828.8   = 483114.09 gal.
