QUESTION:

When each of the following pairs of aqueous solutions is mixed, does a precipitation reaction occur? If so, write balanced molecular, total ionic, and net ionic equations:(a) Potassium carbonate + barium hydroxide(b) Aluminum nitrate + sodium phosphate

ANSWER:

Solution 27P:

Here, we are going to write balanced molecular, total ionic, and net ionic equations

Step 1:

A molecular equation is defined as a chemical equation where it is showing the complete, neutral formulas for every compound in a reaction.

A complete ionic equation is defined as a chemical equation where it is showing all of the species as they are actually present in solution.

A net ionic equation is defined as an equation showing only the species that actually change

during the reaction.

A spectator ions : The ions in the solution which are appear unchanged on both sides of the equation. These ions are called spectator ions because they do not participate in the reaction.
