Chapter 6, Problem 2P(choose chapter or problem)
Are the particles in a gas farther apart or closer together than the particles in a liquid? Use your answer to explain each of the following general observations:
(a) Gases are more compressible than liquids.
(b) Gases have lower viscosities than liquids.
(c) After thorough stirring, all gas mixtures are solutions.
(d) The density of a substance in the gas state is lower than in the liquid state.

QUESTION: Problem 2P
Are the particles in a gas farther apart or closer together than the particles in a liquid? Use your answer to explain each of the following general observations:
(a) Gases are more compressible than liquids.
(b) Gases have lower viscosities than liquids.
(c) After thorough stirring, all gas mixtures are solutions.
(d) The density of a substance in the gas state is lower than in the liquid state.
ANSWER:
Solution 2P:
Here we have to answer the following questions:
Step 1
The particles in a gas present farther apart from each other.
(a) Gases are more compressible than liquids.
It is known that the intermolecular force of attraction between the gaseous atoms are very weak hence the atoms in gases are loosely bounded then in solid and liquid. Thus have more space between atoms and become easy to compress i.e bringing the atoms closer.
Therefore the gases are more compressible than liquids.
