QUESTION:

Problem 41P

Calculate the molarity of each aqueous solution;

(a) 32.3 g of table sugar (C12H22O11) in 100. mL of solution

(b) 5.80 g of LiNO3 in 505 mL of solution

ANSWER:

Solution 41P:

Here, we are going to calculate the molarity of each aqueous solution.

Step 1: (a) 32.3 g of table sugar (C12H22O11) in 100. mL of solution

Given that,

Mass of solute = 32.3 g

Molar mass of table sugar = 342.29 g/mol

Amount (mol) of solute = 32.3 g  = 0.094 mol

Volume of solution =100 mL = 0.1 L

We know that,

Molarity (M) =

        =

             =0.944 mol/L or 0.944 M

Therefore, the molarity of 32.2 g table salt is 0.944 M.
