Chapter 15, Problem 60

(choose chapter or problem)

The surface shown in the figure is called a Möbius strip and can be represented by the parametric equations

\(x=\left(a+u \cos \frac{v}{2}\right) \cos v, y=\left(a+u \cos \frac{v}{2}\right) \sin v, z=u \sin \frac{v}{2}\)

where \(-1 \leq u \leq 1,0 \leq v \leq 2 \pi\), and a = 3. Try to graph other Möbius strips for different values of a using a computer algebra system.

Text Transcription:

x = (a + u cos v / 2) cos v, y = (a + u cos v / 2) sin v, z = u sin v / 2
