Reproductive anatomy of the human female. The human reproductive system consists of a pair of ovaries (in females) or testes (in males), ducts that carry gametes, and structures for copulation. A womans ovaries contain follicles that nurture eggs and produce sex hormones. Oviducts convey eggs to the uterus, where a fertilized egg develops. The uterus opens into the vagina, which receives the penis during intercourse and serves as the birth canal.
