Chapter 27, Problem 27.9

(choose chapter or problem)

Fertilization results in a zygote and triggers embryonic development. During fertilization, a sperm releases enzymes that pierce the eggs coat. Changes in the egg membrane prevent entry of additional sperm, and the fertilized egg (zygote) develops into an embryo.
