While the main goal of the free expression tunnel is to prevent students from vandalizing the campus elsewhere, it also serves as an outlet for students who choose to voice their opinions and thoughts through art The rhetorical situation of the free expression tunnel is easily identifiable. The various paintings and pieces of art located in the free expression tunnel appeal to the students of North Carolina State University. The free expression tunnel shows students that NC State accepts diversity because anyone is allowed to utilize the tunnel, regardless of their background. Also, the variety and diversity of the art found in the tunnel shows the students that the school accepts everyone, because they are able to create whatever they would like without the need of judgement or approval from someone else. NC state, the “author” of this rhetorical text, otherwise the free expression tunnel, wanted to give the students a place to come together regardless of differences and express themselves.
