Chapter 2, Problem 2.C4

(choose chapter or problem)

Bar AB has a length L and is made of two different materials of given cross-sectional area, modulus of elasticity, and yield strength. The bar is subjected as shown to a load P that is gradually increased from zero until the deformation of the bar has reached a maximum value \(\delta_{m}\) and then decreased back to zero. (a) Write a computer program that, for each of 25 values of \(\delta_{m}\) equally spaced over a range extending from 0 to a value equal to 120% of the deformation causing both materials to yield, can be used to determine the maximum value \(P_{m}\) of the load, the maximum normal stress in each material, the permanent deformation \(\delta_{p}\) of the bar, and the residual stress in each material. (b) Use this program to solve Probs. 2.111 and 2.112.
