Prove part (a) of Theorem 4.11.1. [Hint: A line in the plane has an equation of the form Ax + By + C = 0, where A and B are not both zero. Use the method of Example 1 to show that the image of this line under multiplication by the invertible matrix a b c d has the equation A x + B y + C = 0, where A = (dA cB)/(ad bc) and B = (bA + aB)/(ad bc) Then show that A and B are not both zero to conclude that the image is a line.]
