Chapter 9, Problem 9-75

(choose chapter or problem)

Time-averaged, turbulent, incompressible, twodimensional flow over a square block of dimension h 5 1 m sitting on the ground is modeled with a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. A close-up view of flow streamlines (contours of constant stream function) is shown in Fig. P975. The fluid is air at room temperature. Note that contours of constant compressible stream function are plotted in Fig. P975, even though the flow itself is approximated as incompressible. Values of cr are in units of kg/ms. (a) Draw an arrow on the plot to indicate the direction and relative magnitude of the velocity at point A. Repeat for point B. (b) What is the approximate speed of the air at point B? (Point B is between streamlines 5 and 6 in Fig. P975.)
