Consider the general problem of a bar made from m segments, each having a constant

Chapter 1, Problem 1-72

(choose chapter or problem)

Consider the general problem of a bar made from m segments, each having a constant cross-sectional area \(A_{m}\) and length \(L_{m}\). If there are n loads on the bar as shown, write a computer program that can be used to determine the average normal stress at any specified location x. Show an application of the program using the values \(L_1=4\mathrm{\ ft},\ d_1=2\mathrm{\ ft},\ P_1=400\mathrm{\ lb},\quad A_1=3\mathrm{\ in}^2,\quad L_2=2\mathrm{\ ft},d_2=6\mathrm{\ ft},\ P_2=-300\mathrm{\ lb},\ A_2=1\mathrm{\ in}^2\).
