Study previous quizzes and exams and you will get an A. She really breaks down the examples step by steps. Dr. Smith was a nice lady who would answer your question in a clear way. She has her own way of teaching chemistry that let's student understand the material quicker and easier. TAKE HER!! Quizzes and exams are easy and straightforward that it's hard not to get an A. It's more advanced than chem 200 but her teaching style makes it so clear She gives you everything you need to know for the course online, ALONG with study quizes, tests, etc. The weekly quizes aren't hard, but the tests are somewhat labor intensive (as to be expected). We call her Joan of Arc as she leads us to victory in the war on Chemistry. ...Continue reading

She's pretty straight forward and only lectures what will be on the test. The best/most organized chem class I've taken at SDSU. Lecture, lab & discussion material all related which helped me learn better. Smith's handwriting is horrendous though. Offers 4 EC's: 1 at the beginning & 3 at the end (5pts each) ...Continue reading

Chem 201 was my favorite chemistry class I've taken (much better than Chem 200). Get a cool TA so you get all your homework, lab, and quiz points. I recommend Costantinos, he's the best. Class is out of 1000 points. For the quizzes and exams just study the old quizzes and exams that she has online. ...Continue reading

The best chemistry class I have taken so far, and I wish all my coming chemistry classes be with Dr. Smith. tests are not easy because of the time limit (20 multiple choice 50 min.) great teacher, offers 3 extra credit opportunities and if u pass the first ion test u get 5 extra credit points too. tests are like the practice tests, study them A tad harder than Chem 200. All lectures are spent doing practice problems, not much notes. Gives a lot of helpful review material prior to test. Study for quizzes because they help your grade. Practice tests are helpful but make sure you thoroughly understand the material instead of memorizing the practice problems. Tests challenging ...Continue reading

Also get a good lab TA!! ...Continue reading

Don't get the book, attendance to lecture and recitation sessions is absolutely necessary. Go to lecture to find out what is on the weekly quizzes and for the extra credit, which you will need. Study past quizzes, exams, and the book and you will find that it is easier than Chem 200. ...Continue reading

A great prof, but my complaint is that tests are multiple choice w/no partial credit, and she does surprise you with tough problems on tests. Go to lecture and you'll never have to open the book. The notes are written on the overhead (NO POWERPOINT). Much less material than 200, you spend like a month on each topic, I thought it was a waste of time. Didn't even need the book. Easy A, just show up to lecture. If you go to lecture and take notes, it is basically what you need to know for the quizes. Her notes for the first 3/4 of the semester are very helpful, but towards the end of the semester get kind of confusing. This class is much more easier than Chem 200 because she's organized. ...Continue reading

This class is all about your TA. Ive never had such a crystal clear chemistry teacher. Very nice and very funny. Use practice exams to study. Attend her lectures, as her examples are often on exams. She gives extra credit for those who attend lectures as well. Loved her overall. You can pass the quizes by just going over the material on her website. Her tests are kind of hard, she makes them so that you have to use all the time that is given to you. Her lectures are boring but going is a good idea, every once in awhile she will give out extra credit points. ...Continue reading

If you study the old quizzes, you're guaranteed an A on ALL the quizzes. She is helpful during office hours. Be sure to dedicate the time to this class, old quizzes and tests helped me the most to get an A. If you have questions, then be sure to ask, and I also attended the workshop which is helpful. Instead of having her notes on a power point, she wrote them out with you and was able to explain them clearly. As long as you pay attention in lecture and do the non-mandatory practice assignments, this class isn't too bad. ...Continue reading

she gives you alot of material that is very helpful. Study notes and prev. exams for tests. 3 exams get progressively harder, but final isnt so bad (comprehensive, but not many -A- questions). Extra credit quizzes to students who stay for whole lecture. Unknown report (and its experiments) in lab are a major fun killer. Pick a good TA (I do not recommend Campbell). Her lectures could not be more clear or concise in relation to her exams. Weekly quizzes that are easy A's if you study the old quizzes from previous semesters, labs aren't terrible if you take your time on experiments and write-ups, and the tests are EXTREMELY similar to previous semesters. She sets you up to succeed with many study materials and fabulous lectures. Take her if you have the choice. She's a riot in class! ...Continue reading

If you skip even one lecture, you'll miss a lot so make sure to go. The only thing I didn't like about her class is sometimes her writing. She's so nice and you can tell she really loves chemistry (a bit too much). She is totally approachable and willing to help...enroll in her class...Awesome teacher. Overall she's alright, but if your have a bit of chemistry in your past like the lectures kinda drag. ...Continue reading

She's a riot in class! ...Continue reading

she gives u everything u need to study to get an A. she's a GREAT teacher who knows how to teach. If you attend the lectures and pay attention you should have no problem. She explains things very clearly and has an easy going personality. Tests are just like practice tests and she always tells you what will be on the quizzes so you know what to study. Can't get much easier than that. ...Continue reading

i liked her lectures.she makes chemistry seems so easy.the way she teaches make the subject easy to understand and he gives clear examples.just go to her lectures and make sure you study for the quizzes and exams.her review sessions are somhow helpful for her hard exams. If you skip even one lecture, you'll miss a lot so make sure to go. The only thing I didn't like about her class is sometimes her writing. It's a little messy but everything else is fine and the class was pretty easy Smith definitely knows her stuff and is good at what she does. I got a B+ in that class and although it is easy in the beginning of the semester it does get much harder so be sure to stay on top of things and ask questions. Chemistry isn't exactly a lot of people's favorite subject but try ...Continue reading

lots of study material. You can't miss a single one or you won't be able to study effectively for tests. Definitely a great change after Chem 200. She actually teaches you what you need to know in lecture. I never once opened my book. She provides practice tests and other study materials for all quizzes and exams. Study your lecture notes and do the practice material, you'll do fine. ...Continue reading
