He is a great teacher. He spends a lot of time into making the assignments and grading them. The assignments and tests may be hard, but its because he has a lot of expectation for you. You will eventually learn many skills from his class, some of them are actually useful for higher math classes. A little bit arrogant, but that's justifiable ...Continue reading

Cool guy, lots of energy. he is understanding and gives you a lot of chances to improve your grade. I wish I was more attentive in his class. Homework (about 8 assignments) is on webwork and requires coding. Exams are usually take home but that doesn't mean they are easy. Class lectures are power points and optional. Some concepts are difficult to understand but he is in his office to help often. 'A' is definitely achievable with time and effort. ...Continue reading

He is an excellent professor, who is always available for help by e-mail or office hours. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 5/5
He's had the hard job of teaching hard classes. He's demanded a lot, but if you put in the work you will pass. And sometimes putting in that work means going to office hours, or finding a study group, or taking careful notes during lecture. He's there for you and understands if you need help. It's hard work, but if you really want to pass you will. ...Continue reading

Excellent class and great professor. I moved up to the next level as a scientist because of professor Curtis. He's demanding, but in the end, you are a better student because of his demands to be professional in your assignment presentations. This is a 500 level math class, so if you want it easy, go buy a drivable lawn mower. ...Continue reading

PROF CURTIS IS A VERY NICE PERSON BUT I JUST DIDNT GET THE MATERIAL THAT WAS TAUGH. lots of work to do each week including online stuff. take no more than 1 other upper div math class or cs class unless you always excel meaning >B+ ...Continue reading

He makes you put in a lot of effort. Puts a lot of thought into his lecture preparation. Adjusts his class according to student ability, but always keeps it a challenge. Helpful in office hours. Learned more in this class than any other class. ...Continue reading

If there ever was a teacher to make you look like a fool / You'll strive for an F, I'll see it is true! Be prepared to devote LOTS of time to it. Exams are take home and formatted like hw (which is due every week), but still very difficult. Go to class & office hours! Chris is not out to fail students, but he fully expects you to put in the work required for a 500 level course. I appreciate the butt-kicking this class gave me. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 3/5
Very tough homework assignments and midterms. Expect about 2-10 hrs of figuring out on your own time for each lecture, homework, and take-home exam. Office hours are great if you at least tried to understand. Don't expect him to hold your hand 'cause he'll light you up. May the curve gods be with you, my friends. (Oh, he's a real character. Funny dude.) ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 1/5
Chris is a well intended person, but this does not translate well in the classroom setting. He lectures too fast for his own good. When he lectures he lectures mainly to the people that already understand the subject like he does and leaves the people who are first timers to the subject matter such as myself out to dry. Even during office hours he doesn't help just says figure it out or see the book. No help. ...Continue reading

Dude just don't! His class is the hardest class ever. I'm not bragging, but I have been a 4.0 student my whole college career until I took this class. I studied about 10 hours per homework and tests and I still ended up with a C+. Unless you really want to fail a class, DON'T take this class. ...Continue reading

HARDEST I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN MY CLASS. His lecture is terrible and the textbook is not helping either. Good luck trying to pass those class. There was people crying, literally. Go figure. Also expect to write scripts on Matlab, sometimes he gives hints on how to write the codes. A 63% (as a final grade) is a C. Anyhow, I HIGHLY dont recommend anyone to take his class. ...Continue reading

His class is ridiculously hard, BUT the only way to pass is to go to his office hours on a daily basis, find a study group and make that class your priority. He often goes on tangents and conversations beyond the grasp of most of his students. Homework is due almost weekly and takes hours of work, assuming you know where to start from. His lectures are often times look what I can do rather than advancing class. ...Continue reading

DON'T DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. There's other classes you can take. DO NOT TAKE CURTIS! I'm telling you now. You're going to look back at this after the add/drop deadline and wish you listened I promise you. ...Continue reading

not saying he is a bad teacher but i personally didn't have a great experience in his class. He is a nice guy and can be somewhat be helpful, but he is not a good professor. His hand-writing is bad and he sometimes goes off-topic, which makes his lectures even harder to understand. Expect to spend at least about 5 hours for every homework assignment and about 10 hours for every midtermfinals. ...Continue reading

I would NOT recommend this professor to anyone. He does not do any examples from the book, he is unclear about what is on the exams, and is not very helpful and open to students. Both the book and lecture notes he presents in class are unhelpful towards his homework assignments. Students beware! ...Continue reading
