Professor Reviews in MATH 231

One of the best professors I've had at university so far. His explanations of mathematical concepts were easy to understand and to the point. However, the course could've, and should've, been a bit more challenging. The professor only covered the bare minimum necessary to pass the class and gave tests that were outrageously easy to inflate grades. ...Continue reading

I took Calc II with Javid! He enjoys what he does and is always positive during lecture. His exams are very fair and he prepares you with challenging work prior to the exams. If you put the effort into fully understanding the homework, the exams will be a breeze. He prepares students for every exam! He knows how to teach, and you won't be bored in class because he cracks joke so often! If you go to every lecture and discussion like I did and study the practice exams, you won't get a bad grade!! ...Continue reading

What an awesome professor! I took Javid for Calc I, and I modified my entire schedule to get into his section for Calc II. He gives crystal-clear explanations, and I love how he takes the time to derive almost every formula we use, but in an understandable manner. He also loves to tell jokes and throw candy to students! We'll miss you at UIUC! ...Continue reading

He is the best professor I can ever imagine! He is good at clarifying ideas, so you will definitely understand every knowledge after the lecture. In addition, he is ready to help, so feel free to email him anything that bothers you! The tests are very easy as long as you do the old tests and quizzes! Strongly recommended!!! His lectures are crystal clear because he has is able to break concepts down and explain them logically. He is very fair when it comes to quizzes/exams. I took professor Murphy for both calc 1 and 2 and my only regret is that he isn't teaching calc 3. In short, if you have the opportunity, take Bob Murhpy. ...Continue reading

He is one of the best proffesors I've ever had. He teaches with such clarity that it's almost impossible not to understand the material. Love him! He is very clear in his teaching. Professor Boca is the worst mathematics professor I have had at UIUC and that is saying a lot because math professors are typically horrible here. He is out of his mind, and he don't know what to teach. And as someone says he may be a genius but he is extremely poor at teaching and making exams. There is no curve and average of hourly exam is like 30 out of 100. He is mad ...Continue reading

Very intelligent, but terrible at teaching. If you are very good at math, then you'll probably be okay. He would likely be a decent prof for high level math courses, but I would avoid him for any class under 300 level. Doesn't speak great English, and terrible at explaining concepts. Also, works straight from notes & doesn't stop for questions. He spends way too much time on unnecessary proofs. His tests are impossible and way harder than the homework and quizzes. I never benefited from going to lecture because he taught so poorly ...Continue reading

Great professor, had him for calc 2 made it enjoyable with jokes and made himself available for students all the time. He actually made calc 2 a great way to start the day. Not to mention, he's got a great sense of humor and is pretty down-to-earth, though he is really quirky, even bordering on awkward. Good guy, great teacher. He is funny. He is smart.
