Professor Reviews in MATH 1450

Dr. Ott is a very intelligent teacher and ridiculously neat with his notes on the board. He's open to questions during class, and lets us know test dates and assignment due dates way in advance. His test reviews are very thorough and prepare you very well for the tests. 3 tests 25% each, homework is 25%, optional 4th test to replace lowest test ...Continue reading

Great honors professor. It's accelerated calculus, expect to be challenged. If you put in your work and go to his office hours when you need help, you'll be absolutely fine. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 3/5
Be prepared to be a little overwhelmed your first week, because Dr. Nicol is very fast paced. The ONLY way to pass is with an effective study group. Somewhat difficult to understand at times because he is a foreigner, other than that, I definitely recommend him. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 2/5
Dr. Nicol is a nice guy, and fair with his grading (i.e. major curves when you try). You will get adjusted though! His exams are difficult, but the reviews are nearly copies of what to expect on the exam. He curves at the end, so if you are scoring near the topish of the class expect an A:). Although he was hard to follow, he wants you to pass! ...Continue reading

lol foreigner, he's from Australia so its not like a thich Indian accent or anything. Def. get a good study group, take extensive notes even if you don't understand what's being said, and then reference those notes to the book when you're studying independently. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 4/5
Very hard class and a lot of work. If you want an easy class do not take this, but if you love calculus then it'll be like heaven. Also has an interesting semi-British accent and fascination with cocktail parties. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 5/5
Excellent teacher. Very helpful, will get to you know you personally. Explains things well- very systematic and thorough. The (3-hour!) tests are very hard you have to learn long proofs. Well worth the work- you learn a lot! ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 4/5
Pretty cool guy. Accelerated calc is just flat out rigorous and he's a great teacher for it. Don't take the class if you struggle with math or have never done calc before. The professor is really great I love that he's lenient when you show work on your exams. He's definitely hard but I think accelerated calculus is supposed to be like this. It can be hard to understand what he's teaching sometimes so keep your High School Calc notes! ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 4/5
The hardest part about this class was chasing which homework I hated the most. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 3/5
Alan is a very nice guy, the only problem is that he flies through lectures without taking time to make sure everyone understands the material, but that's understandable since its accelerated calc. If you're not really really proficient with math, this class is your worst nightmare. Avoid if you can. ...Continue reading
