The engineering department has absolutely horrible professors, but if you manage to make it through then you are almost guaranteed a job after you graduate if you take advantage of the many internship/coop opportunities along the way. So many opportunities you wouldn't get at a huge university. Smaller class sizes, individual help and attention, amazing Greek life, fun clubs, lots of student involvement. Great professors. I wouldn't transfer for anything. ...Continue reading

If you want to focus on your studies with few distractions, LU is the place to go. There were always more computers that were broken than there were available. The internet is down more times than I'd like. However they put in a new system over the summer so hopefully it will be more reliable. Also, the food is mediocre. ...Continue reading

The cost of tuition is less expensive compare to most college (pretty affordable). There are some great people and professors here, and they award many scholarships, but much of the school looks as if it hasn't seen construction since 1975 it's in Beaumont, which essentially smells like an oil refinery inside a paper mill and it's in a bad neighborhood. Be warned, there's NOTHING TO DO HERE! No selection as far as food unless you are a millionaire... There's either Subway, the dining hall, or a bar which costs a small fortune to buy anything on the menu which you get tiny portions and doesn't taste that good anyways. No places to just sit and relax. Not very kept up with. Just blah! ...Continue reading

Lamar is a great school for those who want that family feel. It's an excellent choice for any degree, but you'll love the opportunities the Education, Engineering, Nursing, and Sciences departments offer. I haven't seen any major problems yet. The dorms are nicer than most. I wish they had more food options like other universities but they have 4 eating places. Overall i like it so far but wouldn't graduate from here. ...Continue reading

Lamar is really what you make it. Has lots of great professors and programs. Also, there's a lot of new money coming into the campus so lots of new buildings are popping up. It's ok great business and engineering program but not much to look at. I hated it my first couple months but once I met the right people it was not so bad. ...Continue reading

All around a decent school. Since most of the population commutes, the campus can seem small and drained of life, but with 15,000 students, it is nowhere near a small college. ...Continue reading

Always watching over my back, people are loud, no fun activities, no parties, just blah. All science departments are hurting for sufficient supplies for their lower level lab classes and it creates a very frustrating learning environment. Probably why there are more grad students in the body ...Continue reading

Since I'm a freshman, I don't know much. This is my first University experience, so I may be biased, but I love this school and its faculty. The food could use some help but everything else is great. The Library is fantastic. They also have their own police department. It's not in a shady part of Beaumont, but some criminal element. ...Continue reading

Lamar's location makes you feel really unsafe, especially at night. Most core classes are easy to pass if you put effort in it. The campus looks nice in some places but others need some great improvement. Lamar need to have higher admission criteria cause some people going there are quite stupid. ...Continue reading

It's really hard to find helpful people around here. Some professors are good but the administrative staff could use a face lift. Most help-line attends are rude and useless. The scenery is decent and so is the rec and setzer center, but the rest of the place is basically dead if your not in a frat or sorority. WIFI IS TERRIBLE. Food is expensive. ...Continue reading

Great school, just located in a bad area. If you get involved, make friends, and find things to do, it's a great place to be. The campus is really beautiful, even with the older buildings. With a lot of new construction going on, I'm excited to see where campus is headed. Lots of dining options, lots of places to be comfy, nice dorms. ...Continue reading

The library is so inconsistent with providing enough computers for students to use. Other than the location, Lamar is not as bad as others make it sound. ...Continue reading

Lamar is a great school! With more interaction with Professors and students. The University cares about the students and the learning environment. I felt more at home here and welcomed than when I attended another Big Name Texas University that claimed to be student friendly. Freshman orientation was a fun experience, and coming back for my second year I was prepared to see what good my classes could do for me. Class times are great, if you register day of, I work part time and am only on campus 3 days. ...Continue reading
