(a) Draw the structures of all of the products that would be obtained when (6)-a-phenylglutaric anhydride is treated with (6)-1-phenylethanol. Which products should be separable without enantiomeric resolution? Which products should be obtained in equal amounts? In different amounts? (b) Answer the same question for the reaction of the S enantiomer of the same alcohol with (6)-a-phenylglutaric anhydride.
