QUESTION:

Draw enantiomers for each of the following using

a. perspective formulas.

b. Fischer projections.

ANSWER:

Solution:

Here we have to draw enantiomers of the given molecules by using perspective formula and Fischer projection.

Key points:-

Perspective formula :- A perspective formula represents two of the bonds present on the plane of paper to the asymmetric centre. Out of the two bonds, one is a solid wedge projecting towards out of the paper and the other one is represented by dotted line (- - - -) extending behind the paper. This two bonds should be present adjacent to each other. In order to draw the structure of the molecule in perspective formula, we have to draw the  first enantiomer by placing all the four groups around asymmetric centre in any order. In the next step the second enantiomer can be drawn and it is the mirror image of the first.

Fischer projection:- It is a three dimensional representation of organic molecule.

Three important steps involves for writing a Fisher projection formula i.e.

(1)The chiral centre should be placed on the plane of paper.

(2) Two bonds that are coming out of the plane of the paper should be lie on horizontal plane

(3)And the remaining two bonds which is present into the plane of paper will lie on vertical plane.

                                        (Fisher projection)

Step 1

(a)Perspective formula of the given molecules are

(1)

(2)
