We have to show that the boy in the tree makes the wrong move by letting go at the moment the water balloon is shot.
The boy makes a wrong move (colliding with water balloon ), if the boy and the balloon are at the same height and the same horizontal location at the same time after the balloon is shot.
The boy in the trees is at a distance up from the point at which the balloon is fired and the tree is at a horizontal distance from the point at which the balloon is fired as shown in the fig. below.
