Noisy snowmobiles In spite of a study that predicted harmful environmental eff ects, the government lift ed a ban on snowmobiles in two national parks in November 2002. Th e study found that air pollutants would be far higher with snowmobiles than with the snowcoaches that were currently being used. Noise from snowmobiles would be audible over half the time in the parks. (a) Was this an observational study or an experiment? Why? (b) What individuals were measured, and what variables were recorded? (c) Why do you think the government decided to allow snowmobiles, in spite of the study results?
