Chapter 7, Problem 7.88

(choose chapter or problem)

Drug use in baseball On December 13, 2007, former senator George Mitchell released an extensive report on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball. He even included a list of players who had been using such drugs. One question of interest is whether performance-enhancing drugs really help. Lets examine the performance of 19 pitchers who were reported to have used drugs. In the season when they fi rst started using, 14 of the 19 showed improvement over the prior year. Is this convincing evidence that using drugs helped improve their performance? Design and carry out a simulation to help you answer this question. Assume that each pitcher had probability 0.5 of showing improvement without taking drugs.
