QUESTION:

Problem 5CQ

Which statement is correct? (a) Net force causes motion. (b) Net force causes change in motion. Explain your answer and give an example.

ANSWER:

ANSWER:

Step 1:-

The 1st statement cannot be correct, because everything in the universe are in motion. Motion is a relative entity. Something which is at rest with respect to some observer, might be in motion with respect to some different observer. Because velocity is relative.

It is independent of the net force acting on it.

When there is a net force, the body cannot be in equilibrium. But this does not mean that the object will be at rest, as there is no absolute rest.

When the net force is zero and the object is in uniform velocity or at rest. So, it’s motion does not get affected.

Sometimes an object at rest can be brought into motion by a net force and sometimes an object in motion can be brought into a state of rest by a net force.

So, the statement is not correct all the time and for all the cases.
