Chapter 2, Problem 2.4.87

(choose chapter or problem)

The average consumption per person per year of whole milk wcan be approximated by the equationw = -2.11t + 69.2where t is the number of years after 2000 and w is measured inpounds. The average consumption of skim milk s per person peryear can be approximated by the equations = -0.42t + 29.9where t is the number of years after 2000 and s is measured inpounds. The consumption of whole milk is shown on the graphin blue and the consumption of skim milk is shown on the graphin red. Use this information to answer Exercises 81 through 90.Both lines have a negative slope, that is, the amount of eachtype of milk consumed per person per year is decreasingas time goes on. However, the amount of whole milk beingconsumed is decreasing faster than the amount of skim milkbeing consumed. Explain how this could be.
