QUESTION:

Problem 37P

A point dipole p is imbedded at the center of a sphere of linear dielectric material (with radius R and dielectric constant ϵr ). Find the electric potential inside and outside the sphere.

ANSWER:

Solution 37P:

Step 1 of 6:-

In this problem we have to find the electric potential inside and outside of the sphere. At the center of the sphere a point dipole is there and the sphere is made up of linear dielectric material.

We know that, in a homogeneous isotropic linear dielectric, the bound charge density is directly proportional to the free charge density.

Mathematically,

Where is the bound charge density,

 is the free charge density,

is the permittivity of free space,

is the electric susceptibility.
