Problem 21BB

Finding n, p, q In a survey of randomly selected adults, subjects were asked if they could identify at least one current member of the Supreme Court. After obtaining the results, the range rule of thumb was used to find that for randomly selected groups of the same size, the minimum usual number who could identify at least one member of the Supreme Court is 48.0 and the maximum number is 72.0. Find the sample size n, the percentage of surveyed subjects who could identify at least one member of the Supreme Court, and the percentage of subjects who could not identify at least one member of the Supreme Court.

ANSWER:

Answer :

Step 1 of 2 :

Given, the minimum and maximum of usual values are 48 and 72

We have these two equations on the unknowns  and  : = 48 and  =72

Solve these two equations to find and

i.e, by adding these two equations we get 2 = 120

So,  = 60.

Substitute the value to above

= 48

60 - 2 = 48

2=60-48

 = 12/2 = 6
