Chapter 22, Problem 95GP(choose chapter or problem)
Problem 95GP
IP A long, straight wire on the x axis carries a current of 3.12 A in the positive x direction. The magnetic field produced by the wire combines with a uniform magnetic field of 1.45 × 10-6 T that points in the positive z direction. (a) Is the net magnetic field of this system equal to zero at a point on the positive y axis or at a point on the negative y axis? Explain. (b) Find the distance from the wire to the point where the field vanishes.

ANSWER:
Solution 95 GP:
Step 1 of 2:-
a)
Here, we have to find whether the magnetic field will be zero at any point in the y axis or not.
The direction of current in the wire is towards +ve x axis.
So, the magnetic field of it is towards +ve z, -ve z, +ve y and -ve y direction.
The magnetic field combines with a uniform magnetic field that points in the +ve z direction.
So, there is a point in y axis, -ve or negative, where the magnetic field will be zero.
